Marvel announced last weekend
Marvel Rivals
- a new and free online competitive title where players will enter the galaxy of their favorite Marvel heroes, and two teams of six players will play against each other in an attempt to conquer the arena. The game has not yet received an official launch date, but the alpha version is expected to start as early as this May for initial testing.

The game was developed by the Chinese company Netease Games, and in the team you can find former Call of Duty and Battlefield developers who are responsible for the process. The players will be able to choose several characters from the superhero universe such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Magneto, Black Panther, Groot and Rocket Raccoon. The list goes on, and will probably continue as the seasons of the game progress and introduce new characters.
Marvel Rivals is described as "a competitive and fast-paced title that requires cooperation", and in the trailer you can see how the different characters combine different abilities during the battles in order to maximize effectiveness and damage. The game modes have not yet been announced, but it is likely that as befits a competitive title of six players against six others, teamwork and synchronization between all team members will be required to win.
The announcement caught many by surprise, especially in light of the great similarity to another competitive title from Blizzard -
Overwatch.
It seems that Marvel is interested in filling the void and the lack of players who have been disappointed (to say the least) since
Overwatch 2
was released about two years ago, and received lukewarm reviews.

In recent years, Marvel has more or less maintained consistency with the quality of its games. Aside from The Avengers, which failed miserably, both of Sony's Spider-Man games received positive reviews and praise, earning cult status among players.
The card game Marvel Snap for mobile has also been successful, and many consider it a successful mobile game, and although it includes in-app purchases, it does not require players to open their wallet every time they want to progress. The question is, will Marvel be able to maintain its success with Rivals as well?
