Participants in the figure skating camp in Dorfen have to pay 25 euros due to a parking ban at the ice stadium. The anger is great because the traffic training area for the school is not used during the holidays.

Dorfen

– It is a pre-Easter prank that took place in Dorfen this week. During a figure skating camp, many parents and coaches parked on the traffic practice area between the ice rink and the elementary school at Mühlanger - and after their stay at the ice rink, they found a parking ticket for 25 euros on their car. In fact, under the no-parking signs there is a notice that parking in the traffic practice area is prohibited Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. But traffic exercises for primary school students do not take place there during the holidays.

The police patrol proceeded in accordance with the road traffic regulations, explained Harald Kratzel, head of the Dorfen police station, when asked by our newspaper. “If the patrols find something, they will check it. There was no explicit order or anything. Our colleagues obviously discovered this during their patrol work and then took the measures at their own discretion,” said Kratzel.

He could only speculate about exactly what the checks were about: “There may even have been a call from a citizen. And if an administrative offense is discovered, our colleagues have the opportunity to investigate it.”

Regarding the fact that the area is signposted as a no-parking area even during the holidays, Kratzel noted: “It is not the police's job to make an assessment.” At the same time, he made a suggestion for a solution, although he referred to the responsible city of Dorfen. On his way home, he knows a place near the Bockhorn elementary school where the 30 km/h speed limit is covered from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the holidays.

“I think this is a completely sensible way of dealing with traffic signs and layouts. This is then tailored precisely to the respective needs. If the children are all safe at home after 5 p.m., you can drive at normal inner-city speeds,” says Kratzel. During the holidays it is exactly the same reasoning. “Without me knowing the location exactly, it would be desirable here too.” In Erding, this is done similarly in front of two schools.

The city of Dorfen also seems to be interested in changing the signage. When asked by our newspaper, spokeswoman Natascha Hannawald explains: "Since the traffic training area is ESC's private property, we will consider temporarily hanging the no-parking signs after consultation."

At the ESC Dorfen you are surprised by the control. Vice President Sebastian Gerbl said: “This is a prank. In any case, we are in favor of the signs being taken down during the holidays. I don't even know how often they actually cycle there. Probably nothing will happen all winter. Do you even need that in winter?” he asked himself.

Gerbl said he can only speculate about how the signage was created in collaboration with the city. “There will probably be some kind of lease agreement that states that the space will be made available to the school during school hours. But it is not in our interest that the parking lot cannot be used during the holidays, when there is a training camp especially for the children and young people. “It makes no sense at all that you have to park somewhere at the Volksfestplatz just because there are signs there,” he said.

Gerbl is annoyed by the fact that a citizen could possibly be behind the control: “You have to think about how many children are in the disco run here, how many are in training and how many children are pursuing their hobby here. And they just put obstacles in our way.”

For this ice season, the issue has been put to rest for now. Starting tomorrow, the ice in the stadium will be thawed. A solution should be found by the new ice age in autumn.
