They had until the beginning of March to apply, and it has now been decided which young artists will present themselves in the “Running for the Best” competition of the Munich-Land district youth ring. Once again, Neurieder “Juha” is the venue for one of the four preliminary rounds.

Neuried

- Preliminary round for “Running for the Best”: On Friday, April 26th, “Juha” will perform in Neuried: “Gündalein” with rap, hip-hop, trap, soul and R'n'B, “Die Greisligen Uhus with indie and alternative rock, “GG Soprano” with classical, opera and rap and finally the “Loop Roots” with hip-jop and neo-soul.

The first “Running for the Best” took place in autumn 1991, making it one of the first newcomer competitions in the region. Around 400 bands from Munich and the district have so far had the chance to present themselves in the youth centers of the district youth ring. In addition to Neuried, the youth culture center “Gleis 1” in Unterschleißheim on April 19th, the youth center “Route 66” in Haar on April 20th and the youth center “Gleis 2” in Neubiberg on April 27th are the venues for the preliminary rounds. The audience and jury will decide which young artists will take part in the final on June 28th at the JUZ Kirchheim.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and start at 7:30 p.m. Entry costs 5 euros. The audience awards points for each performance and decides by ballot with a weighting of 50 percent which bands or solo artists reach the final. The other 50 percent is taken over by a jury of experts made up of musicians, music journalists, organizers and bookers, i.e. those who organize performances by agencies. On each preliminary round evening, one act advances. New: This year there is a wildcard, and the best second-placed performance from all preliminary rounds also makes it to the final. So on Friday, June 28th, a total of five acts will be on stage in the finale at the JUZ Kirchheim.

By taking part in the competition, all musicians can take part in workshops on the topics of songwriting, booking and release. These are made possible by the Association for Pop Culture in Bavaria (VPBy) and the popular music commissioner for the Upper Bavaria district, Christoph Schmid. The finalists also receive vouchers from the Hieber Lindberg music store worth a total of 900 euros. The winner can look forward to a performance at the “laut.stark” youth festival of the German Federation of Trade Unions in Munich on May 1, 2025 at Marienplatz in Munich. As a special prize this year there is also a day in the recording studio for the first time.
