Günther Jauch can't believe it: “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidate Michelle Leist actually had to answer Interpol's question and answer.

Cologne – RTL is also showing two extra-long “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” special episodes at Easter this year. On Monday (April 1, 2024), Michelle Leist, among others, was allowed to take a seat on the famous quiz chair. As always, between all the tricky questions there is some time for private chats. The hotel owner has a particularly crazy story - even Günther Jauch (67) is speechless.

During her hotel training: “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidate checked in two wanted murderers

Before Michelle Leist answers the 125,000 euro question, the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” presenter asks her to tell “a great story.” “You once had murderers,” said Günther Jauch, stunned. Before rumors spread, Michelle Leist has to clarify that the following didn't happen in her hotel, but in the hotel where she did her training.

At the time she was just 18 years old and did an apprenticeship after graduating from high school and because she was of legal age she was allowed to work after 10 p.m. “They (editor’s note: murderers) always come after 10 p.m.,” Günther Jauch wants to know. The two men definitely didn't look suspicious, but were two attractive gentlemen, remembers Michelle Leist: “They were really neat and pretty. They also checked in normally. I gave them the key and they went upstairs. They then called reception again and asked for an extra pillow.”

The next day everything went smoothly. “The next day they had breakfast, paid their bills and dutifully filled out their registration form and then left.”

“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” not only a hit in Germany – TV show with numerous spin-offs

“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” has not only been a real ratings hit in this country for years, the TV show, which originally came from Great Britain (there: “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”), has also developed into a real mass phenomenon internationally. The quiz show has been licensed in over 100 countries worldwide, including Albania, Austria, Belgium, Turkey, the Netherlands, Italy, Vietnam, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland. The program sequence, the optics and the music are often almost identical.

Günther Jauch stunned: “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” candidate questioned by Interpol about two contract killers

Two weeks later came the shock: “Interpol came to the hotel – with pictures – and asked whether the two gentlemen were here and then said that they were two wanted murderers. “So contract killers.” Günther Jauch is very excited and already has a theory ready as to why the two men needed an additional pillow: “Because the silencers didn’t work properly because they killed someone through their pillow.”

“And who did they kill?” Günther Jauch wants to know. But the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” candidate cannot provide an answer. "I don't know that. Interpol didn’t tell me that,” says Michelle Leist. “Thunderstorm,” said Günther Jauch, shaking his head.

“No more murderers in the new hotel?” She denies that. The “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” presenter seems a little disappointed and says: “There’s nothing going on in Thuringia” – and gets a few laughs from the audience. But then it's over relatively quickly for Michelle Leist. She can't answer the 125,000 euro question, so she gets out and takes home a total of 64,000 euros.

Speaking of which: In “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”, presenter Günther Jauch has to prove his knowledge himself for a change. The Easter additional joker makes it possible.
