On this Monday, April 1, a pleasant smell of sawdust mixes with the sweet aromas emanating from the creperies on rue du Montparnasse (14th century). Along the sidewalk, several restorers are busy cutting, screwing and then assembling the boards for the summer terraces, the installation of which is authorized from today until October 31.
Like every year since their appearance in 2020, in the midst of a health crisis, Lucas hastens to arrange the parking spaces located in front of the creperie of which he is co-manager. And for good reason: “These terraces make a big difference in attracting customers. Ours brings us between 10 and 20% more turnover.” “It’s clear, if we don’t put the terrace in place, we could go out of business,” whispers the waitress from a neighboring establishment, who will install hers a little later in the week.
