Three people are said to have planned a terrorist act in the Russian republic of Dagestan. Weapons and an explosive device were found when they were arrested.
Moscow – Russian security officials arrested three more people on Sunday during an operation in the Caucasus republic of Dagestan, which is part of Russia. According to a statement from the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, these were suspects who were “planning a series of terrorist crimes.” The arrests took place in the city of Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, and in Kaspiysk, about ten kilometers away.
According to a report by the Ukrainian news portal Ukrayinska Pravda,
the reason for the operation was
intelligence information that provided information about the “whereabouts of armed people involved in terrorist activities.” According to information from the Anti-Terrorism Committee, searches were then initiated. “An automatic weapon and associated ammunition as well as a ready-to-use improvised explosive device were found.”

IS attack on Moscow: Authorities with contradictory theories about the terrorist attack
The likely trigger for the operation is the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall in Moscow on March 22, in which 144 people were killed and at least 551 others were injured. Twelve people were arrested in the days after the attack, including the four suspected attackers who came from Tajikistan. IS, which claimed responsibility for the terrorist act in the days after the attack, is active in the Islamic former Soviet republic.
Despite the arrests and the apparently radical Islamist background to the crime, Russian government officials continue to point out possible involvement between the West and Ukraine. A report this week said that alleged financial involvement of “Ukrainian nationalists” had been proven. Marija Zakharova, spokeswoman for Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said that the West made IS possible in the first place.

On Friday evening, the Russian domestic secret service FSB announced that it had arrested three “nationals of a Central Asian country” who were planning a bomb attack in southwest Russia. The AFP news agency reported this.
