The

Ministry of Education's program will include all ages, from kindergarten to 12th graders - also in Arab society. As part of it, "the values of commemoration and heroism, mutual guarantee and solidarity, belonging to the country and the state and the meetings between all parts of Israeli society" will be emphasized. "The State of Israel and the education system remember, cherish and commemorate the warriors who graduated from the system who stood up with strength and ferocity against those who rose up against our daughters," said Minister of Education Yoav Kish. "These are the fighters of the revival generation of the State of Israel. We have the duty to act to commemorate them and preserve their memory, to breathe their spirit - the spirit of heroism and courage, to instill their legacy and continue their path."

When the students return from the Passover vacation, they will go over content about "what happened until October 7", for example about the Gaza Strip and the roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as personal and collective identity. Also, says Miri Navon, who led the creation of the program, the focus will be on "activities that stimulate initiatives and social action as well as identity-shaping tours and journeys. We would like to see recognition ceremonies for students, volunteers and educators who went above and beyond during this period. And to commemorate and cherish the bereaved families."

"We wanted to create a connecting thread of four central anchors that will be expressed on Memorial Day, the Holocaust and Independence: mutual guarantee, commemoration and heroism, meetings in Israeli society," she explained. "Compared to previous years, Arab society also joins the month of heroism and revival. This year a very significant event happened, all the residents of Israel experienced it, it did not pass over any population."

The annual memorial services will also look different. "We developed new and adapted rituals for Memorial Day and the Holocaust. This year topical texts were collected instead of those that repeat themselves every year," Navon said. The ceremony offered by the ministry includes, for example, the text written by Shaoli Gringlik, who was killed in the fighting in Gaza, on his retirement from the "Next Star" program, the song "Hatred of Brothers" by Aner Shapira, who was murdered in the Migunit while trying to protect the Nova refugees who were hiding with him in it, the obituary of Sarit Zusman Levane, Maj. Gen. (resp.) Ben Zusman, the heroic story of the "Elhanan Team", and the press conference of Idan Amadi at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.

Other suggestions include the words of the fallen Capt. Yeftah Yabetz, Maj. (resp.) Elkana Wiesel, Lt. Col. Salman Habkah, Lt. Col. (resp.) Ahmed Abu Latif, and the obituaries written for paramedic Amit Man and Lt. Shay Aili, as well as a prayer for the peace of the abductees and their release.

"It was important for us to see everyone sitting around us at the table and building the plan together. 40 people from the authorities, from the parents' leadership sat on the steering committee. It's a great sense of mission," Navon said.
