Hamburg – Barbara Schöneberger (50) actually puts other celebrities on “Do you understand fun?” – but at Easter the presenter herself was made fun of. None other than Thomas Gottschalk (73) played the decoy. The situation in which he caught his colleague off guard reminded her of a political meeting. When Barbara Schöneberger makes a joke about this, she finds herself in an unpleasant position.

During a visit to Bayerischer Rundfunk, the 50-year-old was supposed to trick her colleague. But Thomas Gottschalk arrived too late and then kept disappearing inexplicably - everything was planned, of course. Because the “Wetten, dass ..?” star was set on fooling Barbara Schöneberger. Because she had insulted the director, Schöneberger even apologized after the “Are you kidding me?” prank. In the show on Saturday evening (March 30, 2024), she reviews the events and tells Gottschalk about her thoughts during the shoot.

“Do you know what I was thinking about? When Angela Merkel was waiting for Silvio Berlusconi. And he always ran back and forth down there at a summit meeting and kept them waiting. “I thought to myself, I’m Angela Merkel and you’re Berlusconi,” she compares the “Are you kidding me?” situation with a political meeting. Thomas Gottschalk obviously finds that pretty funny and replies: “I always wanted to be.” Barbara Schöneberger then laughs and jokes frankly: “Yes, exactly. You’re becoming more and more alike.”

According to rumors, after around 40 years of “Do you understand fun?”, SWR wants to cut costs and produce fewer episodes of the format.

The faux pas is quite unpleasant for the TV icon. “Sorry,” she adds. But Thomas Gottschalk takes the whole thing with humor. “I’m still alive right now,” he jokes.

It wasn't just Barbara Schöneberger who was duped by “Do you understand fun?”: a pop singer also had to believe it. After the prank in front of the camera, Beatrice Egli (35) had “a bone to pick” with Barbara Schöneberger.
