Fortnite, one of the most famous video games, appeals to young people as well as older people. Proof of this is with Cath Bowie, a 75-year-old Scottish woman, aka Grumpygran1948 (“Mamiegrincheuse1848” in French) who got caught up in the game. The one who describes herself as a big fan spends up to 6 hours a day playing in line, tells the BBC.
Spotted by American YouTuber SypherPK, she recently teamed up with him. The video published two weeks ago has nearly 900,000 views and has helped to grow its community. There are now nearly 14,000 people following her on the live video streaming service Twitch.
Introduced to Fortnite by her grandson
“When I first told my grandson that I was going to start streaming, he was appalled,” she told the British media. “He told me:
No one will follow you, no one will look at you.
So of course now he doesn’t know what to say,” she continues, a bit mockingly.
The Scottish woman fell into the Fortnite potion as soon as the game was released in 2017, initiated by her grandson. “I walked into his room and was quite intrigued by what I saw on the screen,” she explains. After three years of solitary practice, the grandmother decided to join teams.
Repulsed by the “toxic” words she heard, the septuagenarian started streaming to find partners who respected her conditions. In her team, there is no question of using the word “kill” for example, which she insisted on replacing with “eliminate”.
