At the start of the motorcycle season, biker Willi Eisenlöffel explains why he is making an appeal to motorcyclists in the Miesbach district.

Hausham

– Spring is coming to the district and with it the motorcycle season starts. Willi Eisenlöffel, himself an enthusiastic motorcyclist, has addressed the public with an appeal to all bikers. In the conversation, the 65-year-old from Hausham explains what he wants from other motorcyclists and why his call is so important to him.

Mr. Eisenlöffel, you sent our editorial team an appeal to motorcyclists. Why?

For two years I have lived at a busy intersection in Hausham, where there are a lot of motorcyclists. Since then, I've noticed how stressful the noise pollution is when people are constantly accelerating. For the drivers this is only a few seconds, but for us residents it happens constantly.

You are a motorcyclist yourself. How long already?

I started relatively late, when I was almost 50, even though I got my driver's license at the same time as my car license. But when the children were small, it was too dangerous for me. I've always been interested in motorcycling. I want to enjoy the area, smell the smells and be close to nature.

What do you want from other motorcyclists?

That they remember to avoid unnecessary noise. I've also caught myself accelerating within a few seconds. That sounds great, it gives you a feeling of freedom and adventure. This is wonderful where it is appropriate, but not in urban areas. Since I was affected myself, I drive differently in urban areas.

How exactly?

I refrain from accelerating quickly and letting the engine roar. We motorcyclists should think more about our riding style. I don't want to accuse anyone of bad intentions. I think most people just don't think about it. This creates negative publicity and possibly a ban on driving through towns, like in Austria.

As a resident, can you understand a ban on motorcycles passing through?

If motorcyclists don't change their minds, I think the residents will have no other choice. Drivers must be aware of the impact they cause on residents. The feeling of freedom is part of riding a motorcycle. But we should get it under control when we drive through towns.

useful information

To mark the start of the motorcycle season, the Upper Bavaria Police Headquarters is once again holding prevention events, for example on Sunday, April 28th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sudelfeld. Here, the experts in the motorcycle control group point out dangers and give tips on how to behave. Regardless of this, the control group is now out and about again in the region and is on the lookout for violations. Not without reason: fun on two wheels is becoming increasingly popular in the district. As the district office reported when asked, the number of registered motorcycles (excluding mopeds and light motorcycles) has more than doubled: from around 1,700 machines in 2015 to 4,239 last year. According to the district office, the number of approvals has skyrocketed, especially during the corona pandemic.
