Verdi and the BDV are calling on 4,500 Postbank employees to go on warning strikes. Customers must expect restrictions nationwide.

Munich – Postbank customers must be prepared for restrictions in the coming days. The Verdi unions and the German Bank Employees Association (DBV) are calling on back office employees to go on two-day nationwide warning strikes. They should stop working until Thursday, April 4th.

The strike by service employees is likely to have consequences for Postbank customers nationwide, Verdi said. The employees are responsible for processing customer concerns such as opening checking accounts or loan payments.

The 4,500 employees in the back office have been exposed to heavy strain in recent months during the transition from Postbank's IT to that of Deutsche Bank, explained Verdi negotiator Jan showerk. “That is precisely why we are finally expecting a negotiation offer that takes this fact into account and includes fair salary increases.”

So far, Deutsche Bank, whose second branch is Postbank, is offering 6.4 percent more salary and a minimum increase of 250 euros. The unions are not satisfied with this. “This offer, for example, is significantly below the deal for Sparkasse last year,” said DBV boss Szukalski to

Handelsblatt

.

The DBV is demanding 14.5 percent more money for employees at Postbank, Postbank branch sales, PCC Services and BCB. Verdi is demanding 15.5 percent more money for around 12,000 employees in the Deutsche Bank Group with a Postbank collective agreement, but at least an increase in salaries of 600 euros.

Unions want to use strikes to enforce an extension of protection against dismissal for Postbank employees

Both unions are also calling for an extension of protection against dismissal for Postbank's private customer business. Deutsche Bank wants to close 250 of the 550 Postbank branches by mid-2026 and reduce staff. Terminations are still excluded until the end of September 2024. Verdi is calling for the expansion by the end of 2028. According to

Handelsblatt,

the bank is said to have offered an expansion until 2026.
