At the beginning of the
Copa Sudamericana,
there is once again a strong controversy over the televising of the matches and
many fans will be left without the possibility of seeing Argentine teams in action, including Boca.
Hours before the first date, a
unilateral decision by Conmebol and DirecTV
was confirmed that limits access to the broadcasts of
Xeneize, Argentinos Juniors and Lanús.
Versions emerged of a refusal to sell the rights to cable TV operators and in this way
the matches will not reach all the screens in the country.
Sources from the sector warned that, as a consequence, "
more than 85% of Argentine fans will not be able to see much of the Sudamericana
, something that goes against what Conmebol has always expressed and communicated about its interest in both this Cup as the Libertadores
can be seen with the greatest possible distribution"
.
The Sudamericana is one of the most important football competitions on the continent and in addition to Boca, Argentinos and Lanús, Racing, Belgrano de Córdoba and Defensa y Justicia
participate in this year's edition .
This Tuesday,
three Argentine teams will make their debut:
Argentinos Juniors visit Nacional from Paraguay, Belgrano de Córdoba receives Internacional from Brazil and Defensa y Justicia is tested in Peru against Universidad César Vallejo.
With its fans affected by the decision of those who have the TV rights,
Boca will take the first step on Wednesday against Nacional Potosí, in Bolivia.
The competition has
32 teams
going for the biggest prize: the champion will receive six million dollars and a place in next year's Copa Libertadores.
