Not an anonymous event, but a trade fair with support and guidance – that was the first organized “Job Day” in the Peißenberg Tiefstollenhalle. The leading job center draws a more than positive conclusion and announces further requirements in other district locations.

Peißenberg

– “I am absolutely happy. “The whole thing went really well”: Jan Riediger, the head of the job center in the district, almost went into raptures when he was asked by the local newspaper about a summary of the first “Job Day” edition. 110 job center customers registered – and around 90 came.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter. And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

A quota that Riediger was very satisfied with. “The vast majority want to work,” assures the job center manager. However, sometimes there are individual hurdles or obstacles such as childcare or private problems. So is a stereotype being played out when it comes to the work ethic of welfare recipients? “Definitely,” emphasizes Riediger: “It’s only a very small proportion who don’t want to work.”

90 job center customers and twelve companies

In the job center the focus is on the majority, i.e. those willing to work. The aim of the job day was to bring employers and potential employees into contact. Twelve companies presented themselves in the deep tunnel hall. The job center customers were divided into groups, which were then taken from stand to stand in fixed time periods of fifteen minutes. “The employers were enthusiastic about the way it was carried out,” says Riediger in retrospect – and: “I saw a lot of young, motivated people.” Many trial work assignments and interviews were arranged during the job day. How many jobs will ultimately be placed can only be said in about four weeks, said Riediger.

Behar Krasniqi was one who showed his presence with a stand in the deep tunnel hall. “We are looking for everything from masters to trainees – masters most urgently,” explained the owner of a company that specializes in painting, drywall and thermal insulation, among other things, in an interview with the local newspaper. They want to expand and therefore need additional staff: “The need is huge.” But Krasniqi is a realist: “You can hardly get qualified people these days.” One problem: “Many of my managers have become self-employed.”

With the right strategy to combat the shortage of skilled workers

According to Jan Riediger, not every company is responding to the shortage of skilled workers with the right strategy. It is advisable to initially recruit employees as unskilled workers and to promote them into specialist positions in the company through further training measures. “My wish would be that even more employers would be open to this,” says Riediger. The “Job Day” format is intended to be a marketplace for this type of employee recruitment: “I think we can achieve a lot with it,” says Riediger. Further “job days” are already being planned. Riediger has set his sights on Peiting and Schongau as his next stop.
