Once again, the north of Italy was hit by smaller natural disasters. This time it hit a community of 400 people who were isolated.

Valstrona – Just a few weeks after landslides and avalanches caused chaos in northern Italy, a series of smaller natural disasters has again been reported in a northern Italian region. Floods, landslides and avalanches were reported in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola on Monday after days of rain. A small community was almost completely cut off from the outside world.

on Monday. The approximately 300 meter long mud and debris flow hit a road that leads up to the small settlement of Luzzogno and left around 400 people partially isolated. According to the newspaper, the settlement in the community can only be reached by light vehicles via a side road. No injuries were reported.

The landslide broke out early in the morning around 6 a.m. just below the community's cemetery, dragging down trees, boulders and mud that damaged the affected road in two places. The road sections were completely covered by the landslide over a length of fifteen meters each. Numerous guardrails were destroyed. A total of forty emergency services were on site to get the situation under control - including civil protection and the police, but also many volunteers.

However, the community was fortunate in misfortune. All houses were apparently spared from the landslide. The drone footage clearly shows how lucky the residents were: numerous meter-long tree trunks were washed directly into the center of the community and, among other things, are only a few centimeters away from a single-family home.

Extreme weather phenomena currently seem to be hitting Italy more frequently. In March alone, Monday's event was the second time landslides and avalanches were reported. Previously, hours of rain in February had caused significant disruption, especially in the north of the country. Numerous landslides also occurred in regions such as Veneto, Liguria and Tuscany. In numerous cities there was water on the streets, and rail traffic had to be stopped in some areas.
