A tourist was alone at the Watzmann southern tip on Easter Sunday. Concerned about him, fellow hikers called 911.

Ramsau near Berchtesgaden - A 19-year-old significantly overestimated the temperatures in the Alps on Sunday, March 31st: a police rescue helicopter had to rescue him from the snowy Watzmann southern tip at a height of around 2,250 meters. The Finnish man was initially traveling with a group of other hikers, the Bavarian Red Cross announced on Tuesday. But while his companions turned around after the Grieshütte in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden (Berchtesgadener Land district), he dared to go over the Watzmann. From there he wanted to descend into the valley. The group eventually called 911 out of concern for him.

19-year-old rescued from a height of 2,250 meters: only wearing a sweater and sneakers

Since the emergency services couldn't reach the 19-year-old by phone, they sent out a police helicopter. He finally discovered him using a thermal imaging camera and headlights and brought him into the valley. When he was rescued in temperatures around zero degrees, the young man only wore sneakers, sweatpants and a sweater.

A total of 17 mountain rescuers and a three-person helicopter crew from the Bavarian police took part in the operation. It was not initially known how much the rescue operation cost.
