It doesn't always have to be Neureuth. Six ideas in pictures where you as a Munich resident can stretch your legs without being crushed by the rush of excursions.

/ 13Who doesn't know that? A wonderful morning in Munich. The desire to wander increases, the mountains are calling – but where to? And above all: How best to escape the crowds that have exactly the same idea? Below are a few hiking tips and two pieces of advice on how to get to the countryside or the mountain without stress. © xFramedx/Imago

/ 13Tip number one sounds banal, but seems necessary given the weekly traffic jams of excursionists: Avoid sensitive excursion routes and times. That means: like going to Lake Tegernsee on a sunny Saturday morning - not a good idea. Better: sleep in peacefully and plan a smaller tour in the afternoon. © Ulrich Wagner/Imago

/ 13The same advice applies to friends of the train: Trains may not be stuck in traffic, but you will stand nose to nose in the crowd for an hour, because BRB trains to the Oberland are also hopelessly overcrowded on a sunny weekend morning. © Manfred Segerer/Imago

/ 13A second option is to choose a hike that not every Munich resident has on their radar. For example, it doesn't always have to be like Lake Tegernsee here. Below are a few lesser-known routes. © Klaus-Maria Mehr

/ 13For example, a wonderful spring hike through deep forest from Warngau train station (Miesbach district) takes 1.5 hours to this observation tower on the Taubenberg, built in 1910 by the Munich magistrate especially for day trippers. Visitors can borrow the key from the Berggasthof Taubenberg during its opening hours for a deposit. The observation tower is open from May to October. © Imago

/ 13The Taubenberg is a hill a few kilometers before the Alps rise and therefore offers snow-free paths and wonderful viewpoints even in early spring. Another plus: the journey to Warngau is significantly shorter than to Tegernsee or Lenggries. © Imago

/ 13Do you want to go higher but still sleep in? Then the Leonhardstein is recommended. Kreuth's local mountain can be climbed by bus (to Kreuth center) and on foot in 1.5 hours and looks steeper than it is. © Ulrich Wagner/Imago

/ 13 Things get even more alpine on the Bodenschneid. It can be reached from the first parking lot on the Sutten toll road (from Rottach-Egern via Enterrottach to the toll station) in about two hours (580 meters altitude). The tour is considered a moderately difficult mountain hike. © Imago

/ 13One or two exposed spots can also be found on the picturesque path to the Königsalm (1135 m), where the future Empress Sissi spent her summers. From the Siebenhütten car park you first go up a rather boring, steep forest path. The effort is rewarded with the second part of the path over steep alpine meadows through which a stream flows to the historic Königsalm. Catering is also available here in the summer months. You can reach the top in just under two hours. There is a circular path down, the forest path, which can also be tobogganed in winter, to the Weißach and along the same downstream back to the car park. © Imago

/ 13The beautiful Oberland around Dietramszell, on the other hand, is very comfortable to explore. Here is an example of a tour whose end point is the monastery (pictured): From Obermühltal, first 500 m on the road to Bad Tölz. Then turn right onto the gravel road via Niederreuth to the road in the direction of Hechenberg and keep right here over the hamlet of Walleiten to the entrance to Hechenberg (great view of the mountains and the foothills of the Alps). Now follow a small street to the left to the hamlet of Helfersried (the oldest, documented settlement in the large community of Dietramszell). Here again on the road to the right until you reach the main road Dietramszell-Bad Tölz and cross it into the Zeller Forest. Continue on forest paths (partly signposted or marked) to the pilgrimage church of Maria Elend (rococo jewel) and on a gravel road to Dietramszell Monastery (possible stop at the inns in Hechenberg and Dietramszell). You can find more tours on the Dietramszell community homepage. © Martin Moxter/Imago

/ 13And last, but not least: If God is Upper Bavarian, he certainly has a house in Leitzachtal, probably in Hundham, where this beautiful chapel is located. Or as the locals say: “It's better to have a house in Hudham than a dog in Hausham.” The court chapel above is one of six houses of worship that can be accessed via the Hofkapellenweg, which leads right through the Leitzachtal. © Imago

/ 13The Leitzachtal can also be reached with the BRB towards Bayrischzell, Aurach stop. Or by car and, in addition to the Hofkapellenweg, offers many other easy hikes away from the visitor magnets of Tegernsee and Schliersee. © Lisa and Wilfried Bahnmüller/Imago

/ 13And with this last impression from the Leitzachtal our round of recommendations ends. Have fun trying. The author is happy to receive information, further tips and suggestions for improvement by email. © Imago
