Highlights: Markus Krösche will remain the Hessians' sports director until 2028. The club is convinced of its work. Other interested parties never had the chance to lure away the sports director of the Hessian Bundesliga club. In his first season, Eintracht surprisingly won the Europa League and thus moved into the Champions League for the first time. The primary goal is to play internationally, says the 43-year-old. “We have one of the youngest and most exciting squads in the Bundesliga with a lot of potential,” says supervisory board chairman Philip Holzer.

Markus Krösche will remain the Hessians' sports director until 2028. The club is convinced of its work.

Frankfurt/Main - Markus Krösche will continue on the path he has chosen at Eintracht Frankfurt in the long term. Other interested parties never had the chance to lure away the sports director of the Hessian Bundesliga club. “For me, Eintracht Frankfurt was the first address. “I only got involved with Eintracht because I like working here,” said the 43-year-old on Tuesday.

And so it is not surprising that he has extended his contract, which expires in the summer of 2025, until June 30, 2028. “Three years ago we set ourselves goals, some of which we have already achieved and even exceeded. We quickly came to the decision that we wanted to continue working together. Because the path we have taken is not yet over,” said Krösche.

The club didn't have to think twice either. “We believe that Markus is exactly the right man. “He has become a very important part of Eintracht and has contributed significantly to our success in recent years,” said Frankfurt’s supervisory board chairman Philip Holzer, explaining the agreement with the 43-year-old on a new working paper. “This is a very strong signal at this stage of the season.”

Holzer and his colleagues on the supervisory board particularly appreciate Krösche's meticulous and structured work, which has contributed significantly to the successes in recent years. He would also work and harmonize excellently with the board of directors. “It just fits the types. We are very convinced of his work,” said Holzer.

Krösche took up the position in Frankfurt in the summer of 2021 as the successor to Fredi Bobic. In his first season, Eintracht surprisingly won the Europa League and thus moved into the Champions League for the first time. A year after the triumph, the Hessians reached the DFB Cup final.

“I got to know Eintracht Frankfurt as a club that is very emotional and passionate. I consider it a privilege to be able to work for Eintracht and I would like to do my part with my team to ensure that the positive development can continue in the coming years,” said Krösche. The energy and passion of this club is a very good basis for achieving something extraordinary in the future.

The primary goal is to play internationally, said Krösche. “That’s important, but it’s always tough competition. We want to have the enthusiasm of our fans every year. “Then it’s about developing step by step to maybe take the next step,” he said.

He has his eye on the top group of the Bundesliga. “It's about us also continuing to develop in the way we play football and also managing to be regularly involved internationally. This is the cornerstone. This way we can get closer to the top teams,” said the sports director. But despite all your ambitions, you also have to be realistic. Other clubs are a step further.

He sees the current development after the major personnel change last year with the current sixth place as positive, despite the many fluctuations. “They're part of it, it's a completely normal process and therefore not a problem for us. Of course, you always wish that development would go faster. But it's not a dream concert. We have a lot of young and new players,” emphasized Krösche.

Holzer is also relying on staying power. “We have one of the youngest and most exciting squads in the Bundesliga with a lot of development potential. If we had been told in the summer that we would finish sixth, we would all have signed straight away,” he said. “We hope that by extending Markus’ contract we will provide the necessary boost so that this place will be defended and we will play internationally again next year.” dpa
