- Acrid smoke startled residents of an apartment building in Moosburger Neustadt on Wednesday afternoon: smoke poured out of an apartment on the upper floor of the building on Driescherstrasse around 11:30 a.m., whereupon the fire department was alerted and the residents on the ground floor made their way outside to safety.

When the fire brigade from the local volunteer fire brigade arrived with 24 personnel, an attack was initiated from two directions: Using the turntable ladder, Floriansjünger from the outside set about breaking open the closed blinds and breaking the windows so that they could then extinguish the fire from the balcony side. At the same time, a team of breathing apparatus wearers worked their way up the stairwell into the apartment, where they attacked the flames with an internal attack. The information that the 56-year-old resident was not at home brought relief to everyone involved.

While all the residents of the house escaped the horror, according to the police, a 54-year-old firefighter suffered minor burn injuries. As Commander Gerhard Hochleitner reported, the comrade received medical care on site. When the extinguishing operation was over and the four fire engines drove off again, the forensic scientists arrived to determine the cause of the fire - because it is still unclear. The police estimate the material damage in the completely burned-out apartment to be around 20,000 euros. Any further damage to the building was still unknown on Wednesday afternoon.
