Observe the restoration work of the Vittoriano sculptures up close in Rome, on transparent scaffolding that allows you to witness the work of the technicians: on Friday 5 April the Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia construction site opens to free guided tours for citizens and tourists. It will be a unique opportunity to admire the operators at work on the fountain of the 'Tyrrhenian Sea', a titanic sculpture created by Pietro Canonica in 1911, as part of the restoration work on the sculptures of the Vittoriano, symbol of the Republic and of the historical and cultural identity of the nation, directed by Edith Gabrielli, performed by Susanna Sarmati and created thanks to the contribution of Bvlgari. The initiative is conceived on the model of an open construction site, which makes all the work phases visible to the public thanks to a system of transparent scaffolding.

"We are convinced that the 'open construction site' is an extraordinarily effective tool - explains Edith Gabrielli, director of the Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia - to maintain a dialogue with Romans and tourists, making them participants in the different phases of the intervention and allowing them to observe the sculptures more closely, discovering the conservation problems and the solutions adopted to restore them to full readability". Once the restoration of the 'Tyrrhenian Sea' fountain has been completed, the work will continue with the 'Adriatic Sea' by Emilio Quadrelli, the gilded bronze sculptures depicting 'Il Pensiero' by Giulio Monteverde and 'L'Azione' by Francesco Jerace and the flagpoles by Gaetano Vannicola with the 'Victories' of Edoardo Rubino and Edoardo De Albertis, to conclude by the end of September 2024. The visit on Friday 5 April is scheduled in two shifts, at 10am and 12pm, and is reserved for a maximum of 15 people in turn, upon reservation at: vi-ve.edu@cultura.gov.it
