He is a professional trained to deal with all situations, even the most dangerous. But this evening of December 29, 2016, Adam (first name has been changed) found himself completely helpless, alone in his official accommodation. We are in the western district of Havana, on the island of Cuba. Adam works at the United States Embassy as a diplomat. In reality, he's a secret agent. And he's never felt this before: a noise coming from nowhere, high-pitched, deafening to the point of compressing his head, "like being hit head-on by a wave or a baseball bat."
When he leaves the room, everything stops. He comes back, and everything starts again: the dizziness, intense pain in the ear and, finally, the nosebleeds. The next day, Adam went to the embassy infirmary. In the months that follow, migraines and vision and hearing problems do not go away.
