The family of Cédric Cornet, mayor of the Guadeloupean commune of Gosier, found dead at his home on March 21, has filed a complaint against X for
"assassination"
, announced the lawyer for the deceased's relatives.
“The consolidation of the elements brought to our attention suggests that the death of Mr. Cédric Cornet could have been planned, organized, then executed
,” declared Tuesday April 2 in a press release the counsel for the family of Cédric Cornet, Mr. Freddy Brilliant.
This elected official, married, father of an infant and registered in the sex offenders file, was found on March 21 around 6:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. GMT)
“at his home, in a state of rigor mortis
,” sources confirmed to AFP close to the investigation. In the family's complaint, consulted by AFP, those close to Cédric Cornet refute the hypothesis of an accidental misdirection, citing
"the introduction a priori by one or more third parties of a food body measuring 8 cm on 5 cm
. The complaint also states that the body was found
“lying on the bathroom floor, completely undressed”
.
The conclusions of the autopsy carried out the day after the discovery of the body of Cédric Cornet were made public on Wednesday by the Pointe-à-Pitre public prosecutor's office in order to
“avoid the propagation of fragmentary or inaccurate information or to put an end to a disturbing public order or when any other imperative of public interest justifies it
. According to the autopsy report,
"no signs of intervention by a third party were found"
and
"death is attributed to mechanical asphyxia due to obstruction of the upper airways by a large foreign food body"
, namely a piece of meat, according to several sources close to the investigation.
“Embezzlement of public funds”
“The full report has already been communicated to the lawyer for Cédric Cornet’s family
,” Pointe-à-Pitre public prosecutor Caroline Calbo said in a press release. As part of the investigation opened upon the death to
“search for the causes of death”
, the prosecution explained to AFP that it was
“waiting for toxicological and pathological analyses”
.
Popular, Cédric Cornet was elected mayor of Gosier in 2020, at the age of 39. He was also president of the Levant Riviera Urban Community. The elected official had been included in the sex offenders file since his conviction on appeal in 2019 to two years in prison, five years of socio-judicial monitoring and a fine of 16,000 euros for sexual assault on a minor under 15 years old. In January 2023, he was indicted for
“embezzlement of public funds, favoritism, use of hidden work”
and placed under judicial supervision.
