The Rennes ultra-left Collective Defense movement (DefCo) was dissolved on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, according to the Council press release. This dissolution was mentioned a year ago by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin. In an interview with Journal du Dimanche, Darmanin then explained that his services had
“identified a movement called Defco which is calling for an uprising”
.
“We are also going to launch its dissolution
,” he added, while he had also just initiated the dissolution of the radical environmentalist collective Earth Uprisings, one of the organizers of the violent demonstration in Saint-Soline (Deux- Sèvres) against the megabasins in 2023. The Council of State inflicted a snub on it in November by canceling this dissolution.
“Critical discourses on the police and justice”
DefCo, founded in 2016 at the time of the protest against the El Khomri law on labor, presents itself as
“an entirely open and public group, autonomous from political organizations, independent of commissions and assemblies”
, and which assumes
“critical discourse on the police and justice
. The movement defends
“an emancipatory vision of the struggle”
thanks to
“legal and strategic workshops”
or thanks
to “the distribution of protective equipment and advice in demonstrations and assemblies”
.
“No matter what happens next, the fight will continue. It goes without saying that we intend to fiercely defend ourselves against this procedure if it comes to fruition
,” DefCo reacted in April 2023 in a press release.
