Perhaps because inflation has made leaving home more expensive, Generation Z is returning to the romantic trend of the Corona era and continues to date virtually. A dating app called 'Wingman' surveyed 500 people aged 18 to 27 and asked about their dating preferences, Business Insider reported. They found that 65% preferred to meet digitally. It's the most significant change since the peak of the pandemic, according to Wingman founder Tina Wilson.
"Users in this age group just embraced it because it's efficient," said the boss of the dating app. "You can have a quick chat and see if there's a spark or not."

However, the main reason for this is that virtual communication saves a lot of money on transportation and eating out. Inflation, which has caused the cost of eating out to skyrocket, even in the fast food sector. Upper East Sider Scott Gulbransen says he paid $140 just for burrata, pasta and two glasses of wine during one dinner date that ended up going nowhere.
Some Zoomers try to simulate the dating experience by ordering takeout together during the video call, according to Wilson. "It significantly lowers the cost of food on a date, and it reaches the house," says Sebastian Garrido,
along with the savings considerations, the Zoomers are also looking to optimize the dating process technologically.
"A lot of people in Gen Z are dating multiple people at the same time," declared Cycle. "That's why they might prefer Zoom dates — you can go on multiple dates a day without leaving your house." This allows people to quickly deduct leads, without encountering "the first suspicion of a red flag, they disappear," according to Wilson.
