Instagram is developing a feature called "Blend" that is designed to show two users a few short clips of mutual interest. Specifically, Blend will create a new communication channel between two subscribers, in which the app will automatically show reels based on shared themes. This is not a feature that has already been announced, much less something that could arrive soon. It was discovered by developer Alessandro Paluzzi, who often finds indications about hidden and ongoing projects within the code of the most famous social apps.

Meta itself, speaking to the Techcrunch website, made it known that Blend is in an internal experimentation phase, without a certain timing on the possible opening to testers. TechCrunch points out that TikTok doesn't have a similar feature, so Blend could give Instagram an advantage for those who like to watch short videos together. However, with the same name there is a Spotify function, with which the platform creates shared playlists starting from the favorite songs of two people. According to Paluzzi, the new feature would include "Reels recommendations based on posts shared with friends and common interests." It is possible that, every time two users connected on Instagram 'like' a reel, it will be automatically added to the Blend channel, which will remain private, i.e. visible only to participants, who can exit the flow at any time. Once activated, the function could also show an indicator when the other person has already seen a certain Reel, to comment on it together.
