Vandalism, graffiti and stolen handball players: Unsightly incidents have occurred again and again in the Paul Barth Hall in Gröbenzell recently.

Gröbenzell – Some perpetrators have already been caught in the act – others are still being searched for.

According to information from our newspaper, members of the HCD Gröbenzell handball club are said to have been regularly robbed. The club also moved the hospitality area to the foyer of the hall and those responsible noticed that there were a lot of young people there. Initially, locked cupboards were broken into and goods intended for sale were stolen; most recently rolls, meatloaf and mozzarella were missing.

“By relocating the hospitality zone, we are more aware of the stay of these people, and of course we take action where we recognize that the house rules are not being adhered to,” explained HCD board member Rüdiger Hoch when asked: “As far as incidents have occurred or comes, we are in contact with the community.”

Mayor advises: Secure things better

Mayor Martin Schäfer points out that club members in the leisure center have the opportunity to lock the cabins or put valuables in a bag and take them into the hall. “In general, theft of personal items cannot be reported to the community because the changing rooms have not been broken into. The injured party is responsible for this. As in every life situation, we advise paying particular attention to personal valuables and not leaving them unattended or accessible to others,” Schäfer told the Tagblatt.

With the leisure center, the community offers all clubs and institutions a wide range of opportunities for their activities, says Rüdiger Hoch. Given this use, the building must be freely accessible until late in the evening. Hoch: “This also allows access for people who do not attend any of the events. In our opinion, this should not be condemned in principle as long as people adhere to the house rules.”

Police: Lock the hall at night

It becomes difficult when that is not the case - and inventory may break or graffiti can be found on the walls. “People have already been caught red-handed and caught,” said Mayor Schäfer.

The Olching police said about the cases of vandalism: “We would advocate that the hall be locked at night.” But is that actually the case? “This is not correct, in fact the Paul-Barth-Halle is locked every day by a locking service,” replied Schäfer, but, like Hoch, referred to the fact that the building is open “until a certain point in the evening” due to the clubs’ sports activities be.

Not happy

The Paul Barth Hall as a municipal property is available to the public - for example to clubs for sports or for events such as flea markets, said Schäfer - and added: "As a community, we are of course not happy if this ends in vandalism. All controls and countermeasures that are possible within the financial framework have already been initiated by the municipal administration and are continually being examined in terms of costs, benefits and efficiency.”
