According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 16,000 people have reportedly volunteered for the military in the days since the attack in Moscow.
Moscow - With the justification of wanting to avenge the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defense has announced a renewed increase in the number of recruits for the Ukraine war. According to the latest information from the authority, more people have volunteered to go to war against Ukraine since the attack. This is reported by the independent Russian online newspaper
Meduza
.
Accordingly, the authority stated that in the ten days that have passed since the terrorist attack, around 16,000 people had signed contracts for military operations, and 1,700 people came to recruiting offices across Russia every day. Although the Islamist terrorist militia IS claimed responsibility for the attack shortly after the attack, which left 144 dead, the media and politicians in Russia repeatedly blame “nationalists in Ukraine” and the West.

Ukraine War: Authorities speak of 100,000 new volunteers since the beginning of the year
To support this claim, according to
Meduza
, the authority emphasized that a large proportion of new volunteers also come to the recruitment offices with this justification: “In interviews over the past week, a large proportion of candidates in many Russian cities stated that they are primarily "We therefore want to sign a contract for the armed forces to avenge those killed in the March 22 tragedy in the Moscow region," the newspaper quoted the Ministry of Defense, which, according to a report from the
AFP
news agency , also stated that around 100,000 people would already be killed in the entire year of 2024 to have won for use in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called this “further evidence” that the Russian people support President Vladimir Putin and the offensive in Ukraine. Last year, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu set a target of 745,000 volunteer recruits for 2024.
Attack in Moscow: New reports of warnings from the USA
According to official figures, in the attack on the Crocus City Hall just outside Moscow, in addition to the many deaths, 360 people were injured, some seriously. Almost 20 people have since been accused and arrested by Russian authorities of involvement in the attack. According to reports, many of those arrested come from Tajikistan and the Russian republic of Dagestan, where groups of the jihadist militia IS are active. So far, there is no evidence of Ukraine's involvement, apart from a previously unsubstantiated claim from a Russian anti-terror unit. Kiev also vehemently denies involvement in the attack.

On Tuesday it also became known that US security authorities had forwarded information to the Russian government days beforehand about a possible planned terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall. This was first reported by the
Washington Post
. While the Russian side emphasized after the attack that US warnings were too imprecise, the newspaper now reports that the warnings were more specific than previously assumed. At the beginning of March, Russian security authorities had reportedly thwarted an Islamist terrorist attack on Russian territory.
