Netflix made one of the deals of the year: it agreed with
Warner Bros.
to distribute one of its most popular series:
Sex and the City
. Since April 1, the platform offers its subscribers the 94 episodes of Darren Star's comedy that marked a before and after on TV.
Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson; Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere; Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. In Hollywood, stars that cannot even be seen often coexist. The cast of Sex and the City is not far behind:
Sarah Jessica Parker
and
Kim Cattrall
, two of its protagonists, are fiercely at odds.
The series did so well that its four protagonists earned the nickname
superstars
thanks to it .
Parker, Cattrall, Charlotte York
and
Miranda Hobbes
made their characters,
Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Kristin Davis
and
Cynthia Nixon
, respectively, unforgettable.
The four appear in the six seasons (1998-2004) and in the two films that exist about the series, from 2008 and 2010, but not in the first season of
And Just Like That…
the sequel to Sex and the City that was released by HBO. Max in 2021.
In that series, except for a quick cameo by Kim in the second season, all “the girls” appear except Cattrall.
Oh, and there was no Sex and the City 3 because of Samantha Jones...

The first encounters
Cattrall and Parker haven't gotten along for years
.
As much as “SJP” says that there is “no catfight” between her and her colleague, there is evidence that their relationship is rotten.
Cattrall's initially confusing attitude at the 2004 Emmys where Parker, York and Hobbes sat at one table and she at another became understood as time went by. Kim gave countless statements to the media criticizing her former partner.

The first encounters were over money
.
Although outwardly Sex and the City was a choral story, the protagonist, without a doubt, was Carrie. The preponderance of her character meant that there was a gap between Parker's salaries and the rest of her colleagues.
The difference between what they earned was stark
.
That distance increased when Parker became a producer from the third season and an executive producer from the fourth.
The actress earned $300,000 per episode
.

Kim expressed her anger at earning less than her partner during her visit to
Friday Night with Jonathan Ross
in 2008, saying that her salary was one of the reasons for the end of the series.
In fact, when Sex and the City stopped airing, the 67-year-old actress would have said that if one day she missed her former colleagues, she would put an episode of the series on her TV and that's it, issue solved (especially now that It's on Netflix).
A movie conflict
Much to Cattrall's chagrin, two films would reunite the four leads after the show ended in 2004.
The first of them, released in 2008, delayed its production because Kim wanted to charge more. She had nothing to lose since her idea had never been to participate in a feature film of this style.
During the filming of the sequel,
Parker and Cattrall did not speak to each other
. The air on the
set
was cut with a knife.

In 2017, when Warner Bros. wanted to make a third film, Kim said that he would only act if the studio launched other projects of his. Finally, when there was no agreement, the actress sued Warner and refused to participate.
The reasons for his refusal, however, were clarified by the figure himself, who at that time tweeted: "
My only request was not to make a third film... and that was in 2016.
"
In the same context, Cattrall stated that she and Sarah had never been friends and, while she was at it, she dropped a bomb: interviewed by Pier Morgan, she said that Parker “
could have been nicer
” to her on the set.
"It bothers me that I have been considered the bad guy: I never asked for more money, I'm not a diva," Cattrall launched without any filter.
The knock out blow
The knock out
blow
would come a year later, in 2018, when Cattrall's brother died.
After learning the sad news, Parker gave his condolences to his former partner and the actress did not like it at all. She found her gesture so unfriendly that she made a post with the following reprimand: “
I don't need your support or your love, Sarah Jessica Parker
.”
The fierce post that Cattrall made about SJP.
In the description of the post, Kim adds: "My mom asked me today 'When will @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?'"
And completes: “Your continued contact is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this very clear. (If I haven't already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. "So I'm writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy to restore your 'good girl' persona."
SJP's right to reply
Parker delved into the topic in an article for The Hollywood Reporter. She only did it in 2022.
In that interview, the 59-year-old actress took a hint at her former partner by emphasizing that over the years the public heard the version of only one of the parties.
She said that theirs “
wasn't a catfight
” and that Cattrall's absence from the truncated 2017 film “disappointed” her.

Parker defended herself against Kim's statements that made her look like a bad partner: “I spent many years working very hard to always be decent to everyone on the set, to take care of people, to be responsible with and for people, both with my bosses as those with whom I feel responsible as producer of the show.
And there is simply no one else who has spoken about me that way
.”
“I have never spoken fighting words in my life about anyone I have ever worked with, ever. There is no fight. There have been no public disputes or accusations made by me or anyone on my behalf. I wouldn’t do it,” she completed.
A new opportunity?
The arrival of And Just Like That… in 2021 called into question the bad relationship between the two. While Cattrall is not involved in the show, she does make a cameo in the second season. A monumental advance considering her history with Parker and the rest of the actresses.
AJLT is the first post-Sex and the City project in which the four protagonists are not involved. The story, like "SATC", closely follows the well-known characters going through their 50s.
The striking thing is that the HBO production managed to get Cattrall to soften and finally film a scene for the episodes that arrived on Max on June 22, 2023. In it, Samantha talks on the phone with Carrie.
AJLT has two seasons on HBO Max.
According to Variety, the dialogue was filmed so that Kim didn't have to cross paths with anyone in the cast.
Their disagreements show that we will probably never see another season of Sex and the City. Cattrall's refusal to participate in a new film about the series and his strict requirements for making the cameo in And Just Like That... make the idea of that project completely unviable.
Cattrall has only a fleeting appearance in And Just Like That...
For those who miss the entire team, Netflix has already done its thing.
