For years, annoyed people from Uttingen and Schondorf have been protesting against the high volume of traffic and the associated noise and exhaust pollution, especially from the St2055 state road that runs through town. Now a solution seems to be within reach with the introduction of 30 km/h speed limit.

Utting/Schondorf - Until now it was always said that the municipalities' hands were tied, as the road construction department in Weilheim was solely responsible for state roads. But after the community of Inning on the eastern shore of Ammersee was a pioneer and fought for a speed limit of 30 km/h throughout the entire town thanks to a noise report, Utting and Schondorf also became active. They commissioned the Greifenberg specialist company ACCON GmbH with “noise action plans”.

According to the traffic count carried out in Utting, an average of over 11,500 vehicles pass through the northern entrance to the town, while there are around 8,000 at the southern entrance. The measurements have shown that 14 of the adjacent buildings are exposed to 70 decibels during the day and 60 decibels at night, which is a health hazard. Another 44 buildings have load values ​​in the mid-50s day and night. A total of 326 residents would be severely disturbed by the noise from cars during the day and 246 at night. Incidentally, electric cars at the current speed of 50 km/h are no quieter than petrol cars because they cause the same rolling noise. With a speed limit of 30 km/h within town signs alone, the noise pollution would be significantly mitigated in the most affected buildings and significantly reduced in the others.

After the draft of the Uttinger noise action plan was made available to the public, the relevant interest groups and the authorities for four weeks to view objections and changes, an assessment was now carried out by lawyer Dr. Martin Player from the Munich law firm AVR. The only significant change after public participation concerns the review of the introduction of 30 km/h speed limit on Landsberger Straße, as the legal requirements for implementation have not yet been fully clarified. In contrast, Dr. Players confident as they drive through town: “The traffic load at the main residential buildings along the St2055 is so high that the measure of reducing the speed to 30 km/h can be easily justified.” This applies to both the day and the night. The final draft was unanimously approved by the local council at the current meeting. The administration was instructed to present it to the road traffic and road construction authority for their approval. After their approval, the noise action plan will be decided and put into effect.

The same procedure took place in the neighboring community of Schondorf, where 17,000 vehicles torment their way through the community every weekday and pose a great burden on all areas of life with noise, exhaust fumes and fine dust. Here, too, we hope for a prompt approval from the authorities. Mayor Alexander Herrmann would find it ideal to replace the road surface layer with noise-reducing asphalt. However, this will probably not be possible in the next few years for cost reasons, as his Uttinger colleague Florian Hoffmann also regretted at the current local council meeting.
