The legalization of cannabis is also having its first effects in the district: a cannabis social club is soon to be founded in Puchheim. With a very specific idea.

Puchheim – A dream has come true for cannabis fans. Since the beginning of April, they have been able to legally possess and consume the green herb. However, it can only be purchased in so-called cannabis social clubs. Such an association is soon to be founded in Puchheim.

Across Germany, marijuana and hashish users are currently organizing cannabis social clubs. This is what the law that came into force on Monday wants. The first such club in the district is currently being built in Puchheim. The founder is Alexander Meisl. The 55-year-old is already very familiar with cannabis. He's been smoking the plant legally for a while now. Since an accident that forced him into early retirement, Meisl has been getting his weed on prescription from the health insurance company.

More and more applications for admission

The idea to found the club came from an acquaintance: “He told me that cannabis would become legal, but only for clubs.” Meisl set up a homepage. Then little happened at first. “By fall, three members had signed up. From January it started all at once, now there are five to six applications a day.” In total he now has around 300 applications.

Meisl believes it is important that future members also get involved in the club. “I don’t just want people coming to pick me up. We are a growers’ association,” emphasizes the 55-year-old.

He is currently planning to officially found the company in May. The club could theoretically become active from July 1st. Until then, however, there are still a few hurdles to overcome: “It is certain that the clubs will come, but it could be postponed. We also have to wait for the final law.”

Restrictive

Another hurdle: “Markus Söder”. The Bavarian Prime Minister recently announced that the rules would be applied “extremely restrictively”. Meisl doesn't let this slow him down. He is already looking for suitable premises and is optimistic: “We will definitely get our space to grow. I’m behind on that.”

Taboo zones

Even if it still takes a while until the club is founded, possession and consumption of marijuana and hashish are now legal - within limits. However, the new law regulates where consumption is not permitted. Smoking weed is prohibited in playgrounds, schools, sports facilities, children's and youth facilities and within sight of them - i.e. within 100 meters as the crow flies of the entrance area. A map on the Internet provides a rough guide to where smoking is not allowed. (www.Bubatzkarte.de). The taboo zones for all of Germany are marked there - including those in the district. The district office will inform you upon request that the distances should be controlled by the police. (
