Are some of Vaterstetten homeowners facing an avalanche of costs? The signs of this are increasing, which is now clear from the example of Andreas-Herz-Straße.

Vaterstetten

– The street is in a dilapidated condition and needs to be renovated – and that could be expensive for the residents. This has now become clear in the local council. The development could also have an impact on residents of other streets in the larger community that are in need of renovation.

Current jurisprudence

The focus is on current case law, which the head of the Vaterstetten building authority, Brigitte Littke, pointed out at the meeting. The dilapidated Andreas-Herz-Strasse was only temporarily tarred a long time ago. The renovation could be viewed as new development. How much residents will have to pay is currently being examined, according to the town hall. Littke said the municipal auditing association has now issued a statement. This was not yet known at the meeting. Accordingly, the measure is subject to contributions for the residents, said building authority manager Littke on Tuesday when asked by the Ebersberger Zeitung.

Letter from the Municipal Audit Association

According to the town hall, the current legal development could be interpreted to the effect that the road was never actually built properly. If the residents were not asked to pay and the municipality did not settle the accounts, there would be accusations of embezzlement by the municipality. The affected residents will probably be informed in a letter at the end of April.

Renovation list

One thing is clear: the community of Vaterstetten has a list that shows the condition of the local roads. Andreas-Herz-Straße is in road condition class seven, which means pretty bad. It is a residential street. The costs for an expansion are estimated at 355,000 euros, calculated by an engineering office. There are no sidewalks. They shouldn't be built either. However, consideration should be given to the fact that fiber optic cables are to be laid. The municipality can take up to four years to settle the bill for residents.

Approach is not enough

Basically, the municipality has too little money to keep the local roads in good condition. An annual budget of 1.5 million euros is currently planned. But that's obviously not enough. The renovation of Ulmenstrasse was actually planned. According to the town hall, however, a new cost estimate has shown that the planned costs (planned budget of 350,000 euros) will be twice as high. According to the town hall, the increase in costs is caused by high additional costs for the necessary drainage. This was previously not foreseeable to this extent. The administration is therefore proposing to postpone the expansion until next year.

At the meeting, CSU local councilor Benedikt Weber emphasized that the 1.5 million euros that the municipality earmarks per year for road renovation is “far from enough”. Mayor Leonhard Spitzauer (CSU) explained: “We may have to lower our high standards in this area too. I also feel sorry for the residents.”

Andreas Herz, after whom the street is named, was the owner of the “Baldham Stop” station restaurant. In 1921 he died while jumping from a moving train.
