Two aerial bombs were discovered in Amberg, one of which has already been defused. But the second bomb poses challenges for the experts.
Amberg – Two bombs from the Second World War were discovered in the city of Amberg. The defusing work is expected to last until Thursday. A police spokesman confirmed in the early morning of April 4th that a bomb weighing 500 kilograms had already been neutralized that night.

Salvage requires special equipment
It is still unclear how long it will take to defuse the second bomb - a specimen weighing 250 kilograms. The soil, which is softened by moisture, requires the use of special equipment. The spokesman explained: “The bomb must first be exposed. Only then can we assess the condition.”
500 people have to leave their homes
During the course of the work, around 500 residents within a radius of 700 meters had to leave their houses and apartments. The police made two school sports halls available as emergency accommodation. The bombs were found on Wednesday afternoon during reconnaissance work on the site of the former marshalling yard.
