The Haar neighborhood charity experienced a nasty surprise at the end of last year when two of its vehicles were stolen. An adequate replacement had to be found quickly.

Haar

– There is now a brand new delivery vehicle in front of the Setzerhof, financed by donations from the public and the Haar Community Foundation, which covered the shortfall of 6,000 euros. Although the two cars reappeared a few days after the theft, the van was in an irreparable condition.

“We decided to purchase because the leasing rates have now risen enormously,” reveals board member Horst Assmann. 21,000 euros had to be raised. “The commitment from the community foundation made the decision much easier for us.” The neighborhood help service delivers 60 hot meals every day, including on weekends and public holidays. “We serve 100 customers in total,” says managing director Margareta Förster. Not everyone gets their food every day. The menu is varied with meat, fish and poultry dishes with seasonal vegetables, and there is always a vegetarian menu. Each main course is always served with soup and dessert.

Color-coded boxes with food

The food is served on porcelain dishes, packed in recyclable Styrofoam containers. So that the drivers know which box contains which food, they are color coded. The food is delivered by Feinkost Käfer. Every morning, the pre-ordered boxes are picked up from the commercial kitchen in Parsdorf and delivered to Haar by the neighborhood help employees. In the afternoon the dishes are collected and brought back to Käfer to be washed. Neighborhood Help is rightly proud of its environmentally friendly delivery service. The customers are also very satisfied, reveals NBH board member Doris Keymer: “We received very positive feedback in a survey last year.”

Community foundation is happy to help

The Haar Community Foundation supports neighborhood assistance quite often. She also made a contribution towards purchasing the porcelain tableware. “When the call for help came about the theft, we were immediately ready to help get a replacement,” says Jürgen Partenheimer, chairman of the Haar Community Foundation. “A hot meal a day is a big part of the quality of life for people who can no longer look after themselves but would like to stay in their own four walls.”
