Salvador Illa, PSC candidate for the Catalan elections, insults the independentists who do not want to “turn the page” on the 'procés': “Catalonia is worse than 10 years ago”

The president of the Catalan Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, will go to the Senate next Monday to defend the amnesty for those accused of the

process

and will take the opportunity to "troll the PP." “As an independentist and leftist, trolling the PP is always appealing,” he said this Thursday in an interview on SER to explain his participation in the general commission of the autonomous communities of the Upper House, in which the content of the amnesty law - still being processed - and in which he will coincide with the territorial barons contrary to the norm. “It will be a hostile terrain, with a majority of the PP and with presidents of communities governed by the PP and Vox. “It doesn't scare me,” he stated. The socialist regional presidents who govern Asturias, Navarra and Castilla-La Mancha will not attend the meeting in the Senate commission.

Aragonès already went to the Senate in October 2023 and made a clear defense of the amnesty before his popular counterparts. “They already wanted to make a coven against the Government of the Spanish State,” he said, “and it turned out badly.” “Our presence always generates discomfort. The amnesty serves to end the 'go for them' and the repression that the PP began. "They do not like to hear that it is necessary and that it serves to end their repression, not endorsed by the European courts."

✅ "I will encourage the conference of presidents to the Senat. The amnesty is to defend everyone"

The

president

has asserted that he brought forward the elections to May 12 to “not leave the country in a situation of blockade”; and he has criticized Junts and Catalunya en Comú for their rejection of the regional budgets that precipitated the decision. “They have missed an opportunity,” he said. He has also charged against Carles Puigdemont by stating that the former president and current Junts candidate, who he has been in Brussels since 2017 to avoid being tried, is seeking “personal restitution.” This restitution will not be “institutional” as Junts claims, Aragonès stressed, since both Quim Torra and himself have been presidents elected by the Parliament.

The socialist candidate, Salvador Illa, has agreed with Aragonès' analysis of the budget failure. “Junts and the commons were not up to the task,” he said in an interview on La 2. Illa, however, has shown a great distance from Aragonès on the rest of the political issues, and has accused the pro-independence parties of not “ turning the page” and having left a “worse” Catalonia after a decade of

processes

. “In many aspects we are behind Spain,” he lamented. “It is time to consider what to do about the drought, education and health.”

The socialist has run to “unite” Catalonia and has questioned the referendum proposal launched by Aragonès on Tuesday. “If last week they offered a State pact on taxation, now they want to leave again?” he said. He has also criticized Puigdemont: “His approach to him is not in tune with society.” On the territorial question, the socialist candidate has been against a self-determination consultation and has given the United Kingdom as an example: “They are worse there after Brexit. They said that the economy would be stronger and that they would control immigration, and that has not been the case. Now I don't see the consultation [in Catalonia],” he remarked.

Illa, “available” to explain the purchase of masks

Favorite in all the polls to win the elections, Illa did not want to talk about governance pacts, but he has opened the door to closing agreements "with all political groups, except Vox and Aliança Catalana." “We have to look for common ground on issues as important as language. Feijóo knows a reality in Galicia with its own language and it would be positive to reach an agreement,” he noted.

Regarding the purchase of masks during the pandemic, when he was Minister of Health, Illa has assured that he is “available” to give explanations if required. “There were people, most of them of good will, who offered to buy at zero cost; and there were also people taking advantage. If they have done something, let the full weight of the law fall on them,” he stated.
