Passengers can continue to hope for an end to the strikes in German air traffic. Negotiations and arbitration discussions are used to find solutions to several collective bargaining disputes.

Frankfurt/Main - Collective bargaining for cabin crew at Lufthansa has resumed. The outcome of the talks between the company and the “Independent Flight Attendants Organization” (UFO) union was completely open shortly after they began on Thursday afternoon. In addition to completion or termination, an extension of the current round or an adjournment are also conceivable. Both sides have agreed to maintain secrecy about the progress. The company did not even confirm the negotiation date, while the union confirmed the start date.

UFO reported progress on Thursday for the Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines, which has so far had no fares. The negotiations on remuneration and working conditions are slowly entering the home stretch. The UFO announced on its website that it had managed to tick a box on content-related topics such as vacation, deployment planning, significant table increases and additional salary components. There are now two appointments still outstanding that deal with social partnership between the company and the union.

Most recently, UFO paralyzed Lufthansa's flight operations with a strike on March 12th. The union members had previously supported the industrial action by more than 96 percent in a strike vote. The cabin union decided against another strike over Easter. It demands 15 percent more money for a contract term of 18 months for the approximately 18,000 flight attendants at Lufthansa as well as for their 1,000 colleagues at the regional subsidiary Cityline. The union also wants to achieve an inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros and higher allowances.

According to the union, negotiations will take place this Thursday at a secret location only for the staff of the parent company Lufthansa. Discussions for the Cityline are scheduled to continue separately in the middle of the month.

Arbitration will also begin this Friday for around 25,000 employees of private aviation security companies who check passengers, baggage, cargo and personnel at airports outside Bavaria on behalf of the Federal Police. Here, too, there have already been several waves of warning strikes at various airports.

The collective bargaining dispute surrounding Lufthansa's approximately 25,000 ground employees has been settled since last Wednesday. You will receive salary increases of an average of 12.5 percent within two years as well as a 3,000 euro inflation compensation bonus. The agreement is still subject to a survey of the Verdi members, who also spoke out in favor of strikes in a strike vote. dpa
