, Dominique Chagnollaud has submitted his candidacy for the seat of the French Academy made vacant by the disappearance of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. A former collaborator of Philippe de Gaulle and Simone Veil, the person concerned is also a former legal advisor to the Count of Paris Henri d'Orléans.

If the members of the college decided to choose a constitutionalist, the professor would be in competition with the candidacy of Laurent Fabius. President of the Circle of Constitutionalists, the new candidate claims proximity to at least three well-known academicians: he belongs to the school of Dean Georges Vedel and was close to both Maurice Druon and René Rémond.
