DECRYPTION - The objective is to generalize health insurance and social assistance by 2025. While successive crises, pandemic and inflation, have worsened the level of poverty.

This is a major social turning point for Morocco. In December, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch announced that nearly 1 million disadvantaged families would receive direct monthly aid for the first time. At least 500 dirhams (around 45 euros) per month, whatever the composition of the family. A program under study for ten years which was struggling to come to fruition.

The kingdom is accelerating the deployment of its universal social protection reform, with a deadline set for 2025. The aim is to rationalize anarchic aid intended for only 20% of the population (the country has 30 million inhabitants). The reorganization of this elitist system should in principle change the lives of millions of households and improve the country's human development index, ranked 123rd in a United Nations report dated 2022.
