A little girl is attacked with a knife in Wangen im Allgäu. A 34-year-old is arrested without resistance. The suspect and the victim apparently did not know each other.
Wangen im Allgäu - After the knife attack on a four-year-old girl in a supermarket in Baden-Württemberg, the background to the crime remains unclear.
The alleged perpetrator is scheduled to be brought before the judge in the afternoon. The 34-year-old has apparently not yet commented on the allegations, said a police spokeswoman.
Police: Supermarket attacker unrelated to victim
According to police, the suspect had no prior relationship with the child. The girl who was attacked was in the store with her mother, police said.
According to previous investigations, the 34-year-old stabbed himself suddenly. According to the police, a witness in the supermarket noticed what was happening, took the knife from the attacker and called the officers. The suspect allowed himself to be arrested without resistance. The child was taken to a clinic and operated on there, the police announced that night.
The discounter in Wangen im Allgäu (Ravensburg district) was open to customers again as usual in the morning, said a dpa photographer on site. There were no traces left in the supermarket that were reminiscent of the crime on Wednesday afternoon. The police announced further information on the case this morning. dpa
