Leonardo has set new emissions reduction targets by strengthening the decarbonisation objectives in line with the Industrial Plan presented on 12 March 2024. The group itself announced this, specifying that the new objectives were approved by the Science Base Targetinitiative, an international organization that supports companies and financial institutions in setting science-based emissions reduction targets and in line with the Paris Agreement.
The targets include reducing direct and indirect emissions related to its operations and energy consumption by 53% by 2030 (compared to 2020). Furthermore, 58% of suppliers, in terms of emissions, will be involved to develop and set a science-based decarbonisation target by 2028. 52% of CO2e/flight equivalent hour emissions will then be abated by 2030 (compared to 2020).
The Leonardo Group's CO2e emissions reduction objectives, specifies the note, mark a further step forward in the Company's commitment towards decarbonisation and climate action. With the approval of the new targets by SBTi, the Group's decarbonisation actions will be further strengthened, impacting the entire value chain, from the supply chain to products.
"The approval by the Science Based Targets initiative of our objectives for reducing CO2e emissions represents an important recognition of our climate strategy and our commitment to environmental sustainability. We continue convinced in this direction through the newly launched Sustainability Plan, integrated with the Industrial Plan 24-28, which sets ambitious objectives also involving our supplier chain, with the aim of concretely contributing to the fight against climate change and guiding our sector towards increasingly sustainable business development" commented Roberto Cingolani, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo.
