A four-year-old is stabbed in a supermarket. The suspect is a man she didn't know.
Wangen im Allgäu - A four-year-old was seriously injured with a knife in a supermarket in Wangen im Allgäu. According to initial findings, a 34-year-old suddenly attacked the girl, the police said on Thursday. “The two did not know each other until then, and there was probably no previous relationship,” said a police spokeswoman. The four-year-old was in the discount store with her mother on Wednesday afternoon.
A witness in the supermarket saw the crime and intervened. “He took the knife away from the man and then chased him.” The suspect left the store after the crime. “The witness called the police and told us where the man was. “That’s how my colleagues were able to arrest him.” The alleged perpetrator allowed himself to be arrested without resistance.
The police initially did not provide any further information about the man or his nationality. The suspect is due to appear before the judge on Thursday afternoon. According to police, the 34-year-old initially did not comment on the allegations.
According to investigators, the child was taken to a clinic with serious injuries after the knife attack. After an operation, the four-year-old is now in a stable condition. She was not injured in a life-threatening manner, the spokeswoman said. The background to the crime was initially unclear. “Crimes of this kind are very rare,” emphasized the police spokeswoman.
The supermarket was closed to search for evidence after the knife attack. On Thursday morning it was open to customers as usual, as a dpa photographer on site said. There were no traces of the crime left in the supermarket. The criminal police are investigating. dpa
