It is therefore up to the agents of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) – the environmental police – to avoid their massacre in the middle of the mating season. From March to mid-April, amphibians emerge from their winter lethargy spent in the forest and head en masse towards ponds to reproduce and find the food they need.
