The events took place around 9 a.m., shortly after the start of a large anti-drug police operation in the Saint-Mathieu district of Perpignan. Carried out jointly by the municipal and national police, it targeted squats in the area, where multiple narcotics are exchanged undercover. While the authorities were taking over several halls of buildings in the neighborhood, a man, described as marginal, grabbed a stick to hit a municipal police officer in the head.
Aimed at the groin
Faced with the power of the blow, the agent collapsed, and a national police officer, who saw the scene from his vehicle, got out and gave him assistance. It was then that the attacker grabbed a knife and stabbed the national police officer. He would have aimed at the peace guard's groin, but the blade separated from the handle under the shock, the latter landed in the police officer's leg, slightly injuring him. The attacker was immediately subdued and arrested.
The two police victims were taken to hospital. The spokesperson for the national police, Sonia Fibleuil, wished on X a
“good recovery to the
injured police colleagues”.
“We ask the justice system to show the greatest firmness in the face of this attempted murder of a police officer, whom we congratulate for his heroic act. He was very seriously injured while he was helping his colleagues from the municipal police,”
responded Marc Defresne, departmental secretary of the Alliance Police union.
