The BRK water rescue service in Dorfen had to overcome many challenges. But she succeeded, as became clear at the annual general meeting in Hinterberg.

Dorfen – Chairman Hüseyin Aslan welcomed around 50 of the 153 members of the local group. According to a press release from the BRK, he reported that 274 swimming badges had been taken and 30 lifeguards had been trained in the outdoor pool. According to Aslan, the Dorfen water rescue service contributed around 5,400 voluntary hours, including 1,200 hours of prevention work, 1,400 hours of youth work and 2,000 hours of training work.

Prevention is particularly important to the water rescue service, which is committed to ensuring that everyone is safe around and in the water and learns to swim. This includes water familiarization, swimming and rescue swimming courses as well as supporting primary schools, such as Lengdorf and St. Wolfgang, with their weekly swimming pool visits. The water rescue service wants to reduce the risk of drowning and also promote the joy of water.

Youth work is another focus. The diverse program on offer is intended to combine fun and learning. Youth leader Renate Tischler reported, among other things, on group lessons, excursions, camps, environmental campaigns, snorkeling and first aid.

The water rescue service currently has 45 members under the age of 21 and is looking for additional supporters for youth work who are welcome to contact Renate Tischler.

The guard also attaches great importance to the regular training of its members in order to be prepared for all operational situations. This includes swimming pool and open water training, assistant driving licenses, training assistant or resuscitation training and running water exercises. The water rescue service also assigned a paramedic to the beach patrol on the Kiel Fjord, who gained experience there for three weeks.

Numerous members were honored for their loyalty or achievements. For special services, the bronze water rescue medal went to Renate and Alois Tischler. 17 members were awarded the German Lifeguard Badge in bronze, silver or gold. This badge is a requirement for participation in the water rescue service and must be renewed every two years.

Three members have completed their training to become training assistants. The assistants support the trainers in conducting courses and can independently lead individual units. Four members achieved qualification as lifeguards in the water rescue service.

Lukas Jaworski has also completed training as a water rescuer and paramedic. Water rescuers are emergency services in the water rescue service. They are the ones who are in direct contact with the patient and rescue them from dangerous situations. The water rescuer is a prerequisite for further training such as boat driver, rescue diver or manager in the water rescue service. Paramedics are medical professionals in the land-based rescue service. They take over the further care of rescued patients on land and the transport to a hospital.
