Things can't stay like this in the city of Freising's storage area in the Tuching district. A concept should now be implemented and ensure more peace and quiet. © Lehmann
The city of Freising received an unannounced visit from the Freising District Office. A visit that involves quite a bit of work – and expense. In the end there will be more peace and quiet for the people in Tuching.
Freising
- It was in May 2023 when the Freising district office carried out an unannounced inspection of the storage area in Tuching, which the city of Freising has operated there since the 1970s. In the past, residents from Tuching had repeatedly complained about the noise emanating from the square. There were a few things to complain about during the authority's visit: Waste that exceeds a total of 100 tons is stored on the site, as Knopek explained at the most recent building committee meeting.
The problem: The city of Freising currently does not have the necessary emission control permit to store such waste on the site in Tuching. The result: The district office has now asked the city of Freising to present an overall concept for the operation of the storage area. This must particularly include how and how the operation should be carried out.
Noise limits
What definitely involves a lot of effort is the urgent need to comply with noise limits, explained Erich Groever from the environmental technology office of the same name, who developed the concept. It should now serve as a basis for structural and structural changes through which the city of Freising would like to remedy the problems on the square. The aim is to finally comply with the limit values, which are currently exceeded by 20 dB in some cases.
And this is what is planned: a four meter high noise barrier will be built on the site so that the noise is prevented from spreading north towards residential developments. In addition, a new warehouse will be built that will be open to the south. The rear walls of the hall also act as noise protection in the direction of the Freising district of Tuching.
The estimated cost
The warehouse with a floor area of 74 by 15 meters is expected to cost around 510,000 euros, new asphalt driving surfaces are estimated at 214,000 euros, a new, around 7,000 square meter storage area is 76,000 euros, earthworks including an earth wall as noise protection and green spaces are estimated at 140,000 euros - and a 400 square meter PV system is expected to cost 110,000 euros. The construction costs total around 1.05 million euros, the planning costs around 300,000 euros.
Manfred Drobny (Greens) suggested that since the storage area should not be visible anyway, there is no need to pay attention to its appearance, but rather that the area should be left as is and allowed to develop naturally. Karl-Heinz Freitag also advocated seeing the area as fallow land, which makes more ecological sense.
Storage location
The site will be divided in the future. There is space for 4,800 tons for non-hazardous waste such as building rubble, wood, street sweepings, chippings and excavated earth. In addition, 49 tons of so-called hazardous waste can be temporarily stored in accordance with the Waste List Ordinance. This includes contaminated building materials that need to be examined and disposed of, impregnated and painted wood such as old park benches and things like Eternit flower troughs.

100 square meters are reserved for vehicles that are no longer roadworthy and will be stored there until the owner is identified. The concept was unanimously approved by the building committee.
