Yesterday a serious traffic accident occurred on the B2 federal highway in Mittenwald. A car crashed into an oncoming vehicle. The driver died at the scene of the accident
Mittenwald - A 72-year-old lady from Austria near the German border was driving her car south. There was a 97-year-old passenger and a 70-year-old woman in the car. For reasons that are still unclear, the car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another car driven by a 40-year-old from Zusmarshausen. Both vehicles were thrown to the side of the road and came to a stop there. The accident was witnessed by several uninvolved witnesses. The 72-year-old lady was seriously injured in the collision and died at the scene of the accident. The male and female passengers were also seriously injured and flown by rescue helicopter to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Murnau am Staffelsee clinics. The 40-year-old, who was also seriously injured, was taken to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Clinic in an ambulance. There was total material damage of around 30,000 euros. Both vehicles had to be towed. Federal Highway 2 was completely closed at 4:17 p.m. At around half past nine the road was reopened by the road maintenance department. The Garmisch-Partenkirchen police station is now investigating the cause of the accident. An accident analysis report was commissioned. In addition to six police patrols, 20 emergency services from the Mittenwald fire department and numerous rescue workers were on site.
