INTERVIEW - Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer calls on the EU to reach agreements with third countries to fight against smugglers.


LE FIGARO. - Do you think like Emmanuel Macron that nothing should be excluded to help Ukraine, including sending troops?

Karl NEHAMMER.

- We agree on issues of support and solidarity with Ukraine. We also believe that there needs to be a format in which the parties to the conflict speak to each other again. There is a basis for this with Volodymyr Zelensky's peace plan. We therefore agree on the objective of lasting peace. Where we disagree is on the path to take to achieve this goal. I am in favor of the precautionary principle. The French president is a supporter of the principle of deterrence. Some elements are convincing when we see the aggressiveness with which the Russian Federation proceeds. But I also think that we must apply the precautionary principle to avoid an uncontrollable escalation.
