“It’s an absolute tragedy
,” laments Jean-Marie Vilain, with a trembling voice. The mayor of Viry-Châtillon did not mask his emotion after the announcement this Friday of the death of a 15-year-old boy, beaten up Thursday near his school.
“I am not going to tell you that there is never anything in Viry-Châtillon, but it is a problem specific to violence
,” commented the elected official (The Centrists) to journalists.
An investigation was opened into
“murder and violence in meetings near a school
,” said public prosecutor Grégoire Dulin earlier. The events took place in a street near Les Sablons college, where the deceased teenager, Shamseddine, was a student in third grade.
After having words for the family, Jean-Marie Vilain insisted on the importance of the sanctions which should be inflicted on the perpetrators of the attack.
“We will have to relearn how to really punish, to be strong and firm
,” he declared.
