After the “Seeheimat” in Herrsching closed its doors, the TSV Herrsching club premises at the old sports field stood empty for months. After a test run for the Easter market last weekend, the restaurant is now open again as “Balkan-Grill am Ammersee”.

– The advertising advertisement with the inscription “Balkan-Grill am Ammersee” is still missing, but Selami Krasniqi looks around with satisfaction. The 52-year-old is the new landlord at the lake, together with his wife Manushe (47). The two of them have fulfilled a dream by opening their first restaurant. They had been looking for a suitable property for five or six years. They spent six weeks getting everything ready, especially the kitchen had to be renovated. It has officially opened since Tuesday (April 2nd). Daily from 10 a.m.

The new operator is no stranger to Herrsching

The Kosovo Albanian Selami Krasniqi has lived in Herrsching since 1994 and initially started working in the “Seespitz”. After six years, he took over the “Moby Dick” on Summerstrasse and ran Herrsching’s legendary night bar for another two years under the name “Charly an Bord” – until it was sold. He should therefore be known to the people of Herrsching. “Every second person knows me,” Krasniqi is certain. In the Ammersee community, however, most people know him by his nickname “Seli”.

When the bar was sold, Krasniqi started working as a waitress at Schloss Seefeld's Bräustüberl and stayed there for 16 years. His wife Manushe also came to Germany 20 years ago; like him, she most recently worked at the Bräustüberl in Seefeld. But both are at home in Herrsching. Her sons Aslan (17) and Ylli (15) grew up in the Ammersee community.

The couple had long dreamed of owning their own restaurant. They looked at objects for years. There were offers from as far away as Weilheim. But the couple believes the wait was worth it. “We are here by the lake, what more could you want?” says Krasniqi, “around 500 meters away from our apartment”.

The opening in Herrsching had previously been postponed - delivery bottlenecks had caused delays

The restaurant has been officially open since Tuesday (April 2nd). The opening was actually planned earlier, but the delivery time for the new kitchen appliances took a long time. Manushe Krasniqi will help in the kitchen, Selami Krasniqi will manage the restaurant and service. Bavarian and Balkan cuisine will be on offer. The two currently have two employees – a chef and a service employee. Two more will be added when the pub in the beer garden opens, if possible on May 1st. There will also be chips and other small things to take away for bathers. “But we still have to finish that,” says the boss.

The restaurant has 50 seats, the beer garden another 120. Everything worked perfectly during the test run last weekend. The sons, who otherwise still go to school, helped out and put a proud smile on their father's face. Selami Krasniqi: “We are a real family business.”
