22-year-old Maximilian Hey can look forward to a very special award. He was honored by the Bavarian government for his outstanding master's examination.

Fürstenfeldbruck – There is great joy, even though the highly official award ceremony with Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger had to be cancelled.

A few months ago, the painter and varnisher Maximilian Hey from Fürstenfeldbruck passed his master's examination. For this he received the master's certificate - but not only. The 22-year-old was also awarded the Bavarian State Government's Master's Prize for his exam results, which were significantly above average. Signed by Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger.

Master's Prize: Storm makes the award impossible

However, due to the heavy snowfall in December, the usual ceremony was canceled and both the master craftsman's certificate and the master's prize were sent to the young craftsman. That's a shame, says Hey. But in the end it didn't dampen the joy.

The young Brucker decided quite early on what career he would take up. “It was kind of given to me in my cradle,” he says. “My father is also a painter and varnisher. And so I got to know the profession early on.”

Apprenticeship in Munich

“During the holidays I occasionally helped out and earned a bit of pocket money,” says Hey. While he was still in high school, he did an internship as a kindergarten teacher, but quickly discarded the idea of a career. Ultimately, his father's profession prevailed.

And so Maximilian Hey received an apprenticeship at the Munich company Johann Burgstaller, where his father also works. After two and a half years of shortened apprenticeship and with an average grade of 1.1 as the best in his class at the vocational school, the highly motivated young journeyman immediately started his master's training.

Creating something with his hands that you can then see is what motivated him to take up the profession. “For example, you come to a construction site for basic renovations, where initially there is total chaos,” he says. “And after a week you see what has become of it.” That gives you satisfaction for your work or even when a customer says: “You did a great job, just as we imagined.”

Not averse to studying architecture

The master craftsman’s certificate opens up all other opportunities for professional development for Hey. “I’m not averse to possibly studying architecture,” reflects the young Brucker. But one thing is certain for him: he wants to develop further and ultimately he wants to take the step into self-employment.

The young man didn't have much time for hobbies while attending master school. “The Burgstaller company, my girlfriend Lara and my father supported me a lot during this time,” says Maximilian Hey, who plays the guitar and enjoys going to the gym and running.
