Which organization is organizing the Bolzano market in 2026 and who is behind it? Two questions that should have been answered long ago - at least according to the Mittenwald CSU. The party would now like to push this issue forward in the local council with a corresponding motion.

– “We are going in circles!” Matthias Haller, second chairman of the CSU local association, is firmly convinced of this with regard to the Bolzano market. The historical spectacle is expected to be held in Mittenwald again in August 2026 after a nine-year break and will once again attract guests from near and far to the Karwendel. The agency Middlewood UG, commissioned by the municipality, has been working on a coherent concept for a year and a half. What is missing to this day is the organization and volunteers who put this highly public event together.

The fundamental decision must be made now, otherwise the Bolzano market will not be sustainable in 2026.

Time is running out, at least the CSU local association believes. He has therefore requested that this essential question be clarified in the town hall as soon as possible. “An early decision in the local council appears necessary, as the commissioned Middlewood UG cannot plan in a 'vacuum', but must develop a promising concept in close consultation - also and in particular - with the future organizers,” concludes the initiative letter CSU. Matthias Haller, one of the authors of this application, was even more specific to the Tagblatt: “The fundamental decision must be made now, otherwise the Bolzano market will not be sustainable in 2026.”

Christoph Szonn, who has been working on the 2026 market week together with his Middlewood colleagues Katharina Neuner and Professor Axel Barwich since November 2022, is “a little surprised” by the CSU initiative. Because according to him, it suggests that nothing is happening. “But that’s not true!” According to Szonn, the conception phase has long since begun. “That's already happening.” As far as the form of organization is concerned - there is a municipality's own business, a limited liability company (GmbH), a non-profit GmbH (gGmbH) or an association - Szonn says everything goes its own way. “The local council knows the schedule.”

It should go as follows in 2024: They want to find an organizational form by the end of June at the latest. “That is the goal,” affirms Szonn. The concept should be ready by the end of the year. And who will then fill it with life? “There are already people who are interested in taking on responsibility,” says Szonn. “You definitely need seven to ten people.” The town hall employees Hanna Veit and Hermann Baier, who have taken a leading role in organizing the market week many times, can certainly underline this.
