The fourth and last branch of the experimental program "Mangiaplastica" is full of requests, which promotes the purchase of eco-compactors in municipal administrations through the recognition of an economic contribution: 686 requests have been received by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, slightly increase compared to last year, for a total of requested benefits amounting to 19.6 million euros, against an available financial allocation of 10 million. Just over 50% of the applications submitted will therefore be eligible for the benefits.
Almost 90% of the municipalities indicated a high-capacity eco-compactor in their application, for which the average subsidy request is around 28 thousand euros. 80% of the applicants have fewer than ten thousand inhabitants, confirming the great interest in the tender by small municipal areas. Campania is the region with the most requests made, equal to 112, for over three million one hundred thousand euros in contributions requested by individual municipalities. Calabria follows with 104 and Sicily with 99 requests. For the entire period of opening of the counter, assistance was provided by Masea to users via dedicated channels.
"The virtuous management of packaging - observes the minister Gilberto Pichetto - constitutes a priority in the action of Mase, which will be increasingly oriented towards supporting the local administrative effort for recycling and recovery: the success of the 'Plastic Eater' confirms that there is a convergent attention on this theme", concludes the minister".
"The extraordinary success of the initiative - states Deputy Minister Vannia Gava - is a source of great satisfaction for me; confirmation of the validity of a commitment that I started in 2019 and which continues today, combined with an ever-increasing collective awareness regarding the issues of sustainability and the circular economy".
